Religious Education

The parish is the center of faith formation for Catholics. Every person in your pews, every Catholic in your parish community…child or adult…is on their own journey toward Christ and a life of discipleship.

Faith Formation Classes Grades 1-8

Please call the parish office at 219-769-2295 or email dre@46410.org if you would like to learn more about our faith formation program.

It is the Mission of this Faith Formation Program:

  • To hand on the faith of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • To help children better understand the life and teachings of Jesus.
  • To emphasize the application of our faith.
  • To provide the child with opportunities to grow spiritually.
  • To foster Christian values.

The Christ In Us Family Model of catechesis that we implement, draws upon the strengths of families and provides ongoing support, formation, and encouragement to help families grow in their Catholic faith. All sessions take place at Our Lady of Consolation (twice a month; one Wednesday evening and one Sunday morning, from September through May) for faith-related activities that support the instruction families share at home between sessions. Our Faith Formation Program is not intended to take the place of regular Mass attendance, rather build upon its strengths.

  • Grades 1, 4, 5, 6 use Christ in Us Curriculum by Sadlier.
  • Grades 2 & 3 use Renewed and Received by Ascension Press.
  • Grades 7 & 8 use Chosen by Ascension Press.
  • Sunday parent sessions will go through the Altaration program by Ascension Press to help us dive deeper into our understanding of the Mass!

Sacrament Preparation for First Holy Communion

& First Reconciliation

Children prepare for and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in second grade. They celebrate their First communion in 3rd grade. The Diocese requires two years of Sacramental prep prior to each Sacrament. Children should be enrolled in first grade Faith Formation classes to make their Sacraments at the traditional age. We offer programs for kids who were not enrolled in time to celebrate Sacraments at the traditional age.

Confirmation Preparation

Children celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Fall of 9th grade.  Two consecutive years of faith formation is required prior to receiving this Sacrament. Students should enroll in 7th grade to celebrate their Confirmation in the Fall of 9th grade. Students who haven't been enrolled since 7th grade should contact the Director of Discipleship and Evangelization to make other arrangements for Confirmation prep, 219-769-1755, ext 308.

Please note that regarding Saint projects and service hours/projects, Aquinas students should follow school procedures, and FFP students will follow FFP handbook requirements.
